gas station diesel

Pointing directly to the 80s idi diesel motor, is basic gas station pump diesel ok? Should I be looking for additive's to put with todays corner station pump quality diesel ?
Is there a thread already talking about this subject ?

As long as you are driving regularly, a mild bio blend won't hurt it. In most of Oregon its mostly at least B5 anyways, even for commercial vehicles.

Its all advertised/disclaimed as B5 blend around here now. They claim it restores the lubricity stripped by the process of refining ULSD.

I still add a little Power Service additive now and then. (89-93 cummins trucks here.)

For a time, you could get pre-dosed fuel at Mowhawk/Husky and Shell chains. Not seeing that anymore.

My own stigma with fuel is if it has a greenish tint and the traditional smell, it is less refined that the completely clear/odourless variety. I have asked fuel delivery personnel about the difference and only get vague answers. I have conspiracy theories...

I run my truck on waste motor oil (WMO), you can look up my thread "Jesus Freak's WMO thread", but im VERY unscientific in my WMO approach. @kbenz and @Mt_Man are VERY scientific in their handling of WMO....... some say that we're destroying our injection pumps, some say we aren't hurting anything..... @Black dawg has some good info on his WMO experience both good and bad....... either way, dont consider WMO as an "easy answer" to the cost of diesel...... its a pretty sharp learning curve.....

I really have not meant to come across as negative towards wmo use. I have just seen it over and over, guy gets all excited, "free fuel....free fuel"....things are great for awhile. Then, "hey, why does my truck run like this?.....why does it still run bad and start bad and use oil, even while burning straight diesel?
Then, I start asking questions about filtering and viscosity of mixes........get the "everbody online does it just like I have been and they dont have problems"......yes they do.

Learning curve is a good way to put it. My advise is, settle well, filter with a filter (not a.shirt or jeans or your old underwear) into a transfer tank and mix 50/50. With diesel. Filter the mix from the transfer tank to 2mic in to the truck tank.

This ended up being the least hassle, and still saved a huge amount of money.

I really wonder about the claim that today's fuel lacks lubricity due to the sulfur being removed. Some place I read an article on when they first removed sulfur in Europe they had high rates of failure due to lack of lubricity in fuel. They found the fuel was dry and added lubricity back in.

Do understand the reduced lubricity is cause by the refining process (water washing) used to strip out the final sulfur content. Sulfur in itself is not a lubricant.

This water-washing leaves trace residual water dissolved in the fuel. Bio-diesel is hygroscopic also. So you can see, each problem begets a solution with it own problem(s).

Yeah, right on, I don't take anything you've said in the past as necessarily negative, but you're absolutely right, there are "consequences" to figuring out WMO.....like sitting on side of the road, hard starts, dead batteries from over cranking, using oil, but once you get past the "initiation period".....it sure makes sence......its not for the "feint of heart" for sure.....I love it.....I should filter better, but I dont mind changing the filter on my truck semi-regularly.....and 50/50 is good, but ive got a source of diesel/gas mix from a diesel shop so I don't thin it like that, and NW Florida is hot enough that it drinks it well........but yeah, I make my own fuel...

If that directed at me I never said sulfur was lubrication.

Let's not add anything to the list of ingredients to stabilize the product nor add back the power the smog N a t z i ' s took away, there
