... the actual body of the IP hitting the intake is preventing me from rotating it any further.

It may appear that way, but generally it is the slots milled into the housing that stop you first.

I'd think your gear is either off a tooth, or as you sumize the pump is EOL. Without a meter reading though, it's hard to be sure.

In his case 2k miles than destroyed the engine.... so it must be ok.
Mr Young, was this a brand new IP? or some worn out stuff?

Do you need a meter to set the timing? no.
If you are going to test the limits, having the ability to know how far you've gone would be nice.

yes sir it was a brand new IP till i burned it up because of algea and a clogged filter, so i put my old pump back on it, and when i max it out it will still rattle more and harder than my stepdads 94 PSD

I had an instance where recently working on a members truck where we cranked the pump as far as it would go, and it didn't liven it up a whole lot. Smoked less at idle, but needs the pump and injectors replaced. Setup has 244k miles on it, everything was factory original.

I'd look into a new pump.
