Alright, quick question.... Does the fuel system require a fuel return? I don't see why one is required.... I am planning on ridding of the stock mechanical lift pump and filter head. Going with 2 filters and an electric pump. Just curious about the return side of the house.

The fuel has to go somewhere. It can't dead head like the SD 7.3 powerstroke, that was a crappie system.

absolutely needs a return.
excess fuel from the IP is the main concern.
without a way to evacuate the fuel, you will run into issues. may even kill the IP

Yes we need a fuel return. If the extra fuel run thru the injection pump can't be returned the pump will lock up from over pressure on a pilot valve I recall. As for returns from the injectors yes again. Now you can return it anyplace you want. But know this. Nearly 80
5 of the fuel going into the pump is returned to the tank. This fuel is a lube and a coolant for both the pump and the injectors. Nice thought but really not practical. Just think about the lost fuel if you allowed it to dump to the road.
