front diff

Today as I was crawling under my truck trying to drain the coolant I noticed my front diff says '50'....does this mean I have a dana 50? And if so whats so great about a dana 50. What are the ball joints and what not supposed to look like? mine kind of look like they leave wet spots on the front end.....il get a pic tmo that prob makes no sense to you guys

Yes, you've got a TTB Dana 50. Not sure why the balljoints would leave a wet spot?

I think a photo is a good idea.

Ball joints are the pivot points between the axle and the wheel. If there are wet spots that close to the tires I would be worried about brake lines/calipers leaking.

Ball joints often fail, in a varying assortment of ways. Most get loose and then your camber is way off. If you jack up the truck from the axle (to keep the pressure on the springs and pivot bushings) and you can move the bottom of the wheel in and out, your ball joints are dead.

Looks like its roundabout the area of the oil cooler/filter, so check that, then if that checks out maybe valve cover gaskets. Its coming from above the residue and from the pics thats what I would check.

The passenger valve cover is pretty greasy I guess that's it . Theres wet spots like this in the in the whhel/brake area to I'll get a pic of that tmo

Same with mine. Need to do something about it eventually.
