2 bad hoses is just as unlikely as 2 bad calipers.

They will replace the hoses, and it wont fix it, but you will never know because they will fix the actual problem, which I bet my left nut is the pushrod adjustment.

having a temper tantrum about it won't solve anything. if they suggest on replacing the hoses, let them do it with a caveat...go ahead and replace but if the problem isn't solved the shop is going to eat the hoses.
besides, there is no telling if the hoses are defective.
bottom line is if you word it right, you have nothing to lose.
you're either getting your truck fixed or you are getting another set ofr free hoses for their bad guesswork.

Free hoses and... Free bleeding of the system. Can't hurt to let them attempt to fix it any way they can.. Its on their dime but its on your time too...

they have him by the balls either way. he has no tools. this way he has a chance of getting resolution. that beats being a square one with no solution.

That is a good point... Even a harbor freight tool set under the seat is something. Just saying a snapon set is nice but not cost wise...

I have a set of tools, but as I'm sure most of you know, not any cheap set of tools has everything needed to get into all the retarded places Ford decided to put bolts in these trucks. But anyway, I do have a set of tools now and I bought a jack too. Hence why I said if they keep playing the "lets replace parts on his dime and time until its fixed" game then I'm taking it back since I actually have a jack and some tools now. The only place I have to work on it is where I live, out on a main city street but so long as I stay under the truck or under the hood from the front and dont roll out into the street I should be ok I think.

Well they finally decided to consider the brake master as the problem, but not until after replacing the hoses first. lol Anyway they want to replace the master cylinder now, but want almost $400 to do it. I think thats more than just a bit steep. If thats the case I'll probably just take the truck back and take my chances getting it done with what tools I have.

The weirdest part about mine is they started working again last night. So they were locked up during the day but then last night they worked fine.
Mines done that a few times too, its rare though. Not sure on the cause so good luck and I'll lurk for answers in your thread LOL

Who replaced the mater cylinder.. You or the shop. A good shop should stand behind what they install and work on and yes... $400.00 is about $350.00 way too much in my feelings.

I replaced the master cylinder and booster as a set. As some of you may remember, I bought a new set from Advance Auto a while back and installed it, only to find out it was bad, both the booster and master. So being in a bind and needing the truck I pulled this master and booster off of my grandpas rolled truck and installed it into my truck. This booster and master are also very low mile units. We had replaced them in my grandpas truck only weeks before we rolled it.

They estimated $379 to install a new master cylinder. Like you guys I think they are trying to recoup some of the costs for the diagnosis time and time installing those hoses etc.

Oh yea, they told me "To be honest I really want to bail on this thing because nothing on it is original equipment. Its so heavily modified we cant tell heads or tails of the thing, whats original whats not, what kind of parts are needed to fix the issues etc. But I'm going to try to fix it for you because I want to help you out. I just dont like working on heavily modified vehicles like this."

He then went on to tell me, "You don't have much working on that truck right now do you. Your speedometer isnt working (I disconnected it a while back because the needle was skipping) and none of your interior gauge panel lights are working." When he said the interior gauge panel lights werent working theres only one answer to why that is, because they did when I brought it in, the 4x4 indicator has a short in it so when you put it into 4wd it blows the fuse. So thats got me wondering why they thought they needed it in 4wd now too.

I have to agree with Russ!!! We went through the same thing after a master/booster swapout....

My other thought is.... what is not original? That fact it has parts replaced on it? You have a factory N/A engine.. and so what all the gauges don't work.... hell they don't "work" when they are connected.... and I think alot of the slantnose speedos flopped.... ours did, even with new cables and the like.....

If he doesn't like the fact all the parts are not factory..... what does he expect the truck is 28 years old.... hell I didn't have all my factory parts still when I was 28..... too bad your were not here..... we would get it wipped back into shape this weekend.....
