My resolution to the noisy, flapping alternator belt. Thanks to this web site for the idea of an added idler when I first got the truck ($400 dollar truck that is awesome!)....but I didn't have the motivation to gather the parts. Then my son blows the head gasket in his honda so I do a head gasket and change the overdue timing components...as soon I saw that tensioner pully I couldnt wait to finish the honda and see if it could work. Just bolted right on and perfect so far! Sorry for the story, just happy....but is it blasphemy to have that hight quality Japanese bearing on my 'merican metal?

There are lots of different timing idlers that would work for this. It has been lots of years, but I used an idler in what looks to be the same position, and it didnt work well for me (crappy belts??). The belts would end up separating. Just keep and eye on them, maybe you will have better luck than I did.

The pulley is a 2002 accord balance shaft belt tensioner and really there is only one bolt on the in the area of the flapping section of the belt. I ran about a quarter inch longer bolt to make up for the stand off on the pulley. Thanks black dawg for heads up...im using a piece of crap belt that I didnt trust much before the mod...now I really be watching it. Ill buy one of those high end belts before I delete this pulley...its just so much more stable and quiet.

Huh that's interesting I haven't had a "problem" with mine? What are the benefits besides knowing that the belt isn't flapping around as much anymore? You say it's quieter? Like can you tell that from in the cab? So do you just loosen up the alternator enough for the additional bit of belt length it takes?

My belt was whipping and flapping about, mostly at lower engine speeds, no matter how tight I had it adjusted. It made a whipping noise and at times i wondered if it was getting into the vacuum pump belt. Pulley alignment looked good ok so I looked it up on this site and found the general opinion that the belt is just too long, pulley to pulley, between altenator and main crank pulley. I loosened the vacuum pump belt and affixed the new pulley and adjusted the stock belts. So far so good.

My belt bounces all over the place too and sometimes hits the vacuum pulley. Is this all I need?

I wouldn't pay that for it....junk yard for sure or you can buy just the balance shaft pulley at rockauto for 20.

So just a balance shaft pulley from rockauto for a 2002 accord? Any certain engine for the accord?

Can you get a picture of what bolt you used? I know you said it will be pretty obvious but I would rather just be on the safe side; can't hurt.

Also I know you said you used a longer bolt. Do you have any specs on the bolt or figure I can just use some washers on the stock bolt or is there not enough thread on the bolt to do it? I dont mean to ask a million little things but figure it will help people that comes across this thread at another times.

Did you go with any aprticular brand over another or just one in the middle range?

Also any thoughts on the bolt for it that I mentioned above? I am gonna order that idler tonight I think.
