These guys bring up a good point. When we did calipers on @saburai truck we had to sand the paint off the ends of the caliper to get it to slide properly. I've also had several sets of brand new pads require some light grinding to let them slide properly in their grooves.

While I will be pulling the caliper off and see what the deal is with it, I guess I'll wait to replace the pads until they are shot. I mean, it'll continue to be unevenly worn, but eh... they do still have about 50% life on the worn down side. They should last me a year or so, at the very least. Maybe longer, since it hopefully won't be dragging anymore once I get the caliper sliding again. I wonder if the disconnected shock on that same side had anything to do with it. I carry all the tools to do the job, so it's something I can do at a truck stop if need be. The worst part is jacking it up and taking off the wheel. Beyond that, it only takes a socket wrench, a dead blow hammer, a screwdriver, and big C clamp.

Finally a nice day to work on this.

I found almost no grease. I guess I didn't put enough, or it somehow washed away.

The pads aren't actually unevenly worn like I thought, but there was brake drag with one piston out more. Must have happened more recently. What threw me off is the slit isn't cut as deep on one end of the outer brake pad, so at first glance, it looks more worn.

But here are the pads when installed after I took it all apart and regreased it. They look pretty evenly worn to me.

I put back one of the old "keys" in case the newer aftermarket one is problematic. I also compared the newer spring to the old one and found the newer one more bowed, so I flattened it slightly. It still puts pressure on the caliper, just not as much, allowing slightly more free movement. Seems good now, I pressed the brake pedal several times before I put the wheel back on... no drag. At least, none besides the light drag from the slightly warped rotor, but nothing bad like it was when I found it. It allows for slight movement side to side now, so nothing should be seizing/dragging.
