I posted earlier this week about a friend with a 4700 ih the had a knock loss of power and coolant in the oil. Well went to check it out tonight and find the knock is pretty serious. And that the motor in the truck is a t444e which if I understood the tech article post about idi history the t444e is the powerstroker. Did I understand that correctly.

The plot thickens. He has a couple of moters that he has sitting in his shop that he thinks could be used as a replacement and ask me to take a look. Well turns out one is a 7.3 idi no known history and the other is a 7.3 idi that was reman'ed by jasper engines "about 10k niles ago". The no history motor has no IP and everything else looks to be there. The jasper engine was removed from a wrecked truck and has a damage to a valve cover the oil pan and two injectors. Other wise looks as though it could be a 10k mile motor.

My delima. As I am new to the idi and psd I'm unsure if these engines will swap. Everything looks like it will but I was unable to compair the "bell housing/rear motor mount" bolt patterns of the two different engines. The truck has a manual shift trans so there would be no know conflict there. I'm calling jasper engines next week to try and get some history on how long ago this engine was reman'ed by them. Making the change from a psd to an idi shouldn't be a problem just a power wire to the IP and then the require guages.

Can someone verify the "bell housing" issue for me. Oh I about forgot will the flywheel off the psd bolt to the idi.

Sorry for such a long post but trying to show that I've done a little of my homework.

one thing you will have to have is a fuel pedal and the throttle linkage from a idi, and wireing isnt ******* a idi psd there is a ton of wires, i beilieve the trans will swap no problems, not sure about motor mounts but if they dont swap you could always make some

Front motor mount will work. My concern was the adapter/bell housing/rear motor mounts.

bell housings should swap not sure about the rest tho

Looks like its all one piece. Can't tell 100% turbo crap is in the way.

Anyone know if the psd flywheel will mount to an idi crank?

Not mine to get rid of. But I'm sure I could make some kind of deal happen.

For changing out his engine he's willing to pay and he's giving me a 47 or 4900 ih with a dt466. Runs but likely needs rebuilt.

The flywheel is a no go.
I'd imagine the pattern on the block to go to the bellhousing adapter will be the same, but, I'm not 100% sure. The Ford bolt pattern the adapter goes to is the same, but, that doesn't mean the pattern on the block itself its.
Anyone know if the adapter is interchangeable between the PSD and the IDI?

One thing that won't swap without a lot of fabrication is the turbo assy. Not sure how happy he'll be with a NA IDI in there. Everything but the wiring is really similar. I bet both the 7.3 PSD and I know for sure, the IDI's without the adapter plate bolt to a #3 SAE bellhousing. Nice thing about the medium duty trucks and bigger...way more transmission choices for way less modifications.

Currently truck has a mannual trans. Didn't pay enough attention to see how many holes it had prob 5 or 6.
So the psd flywheel is a no go?
This guy has a milk distributorship and this truck is a milk truck. Truck travels at max 100 miles a day on its long route. And most of the week sits in wait as a backup truck. With this in mind and with my advise that there will be a power difference he wants the swap.
The casting on his idi motors looks just like my 93 f350 idi at the bell housing with about 8" between the top 2 bolt holes. On his psd engine in the truck I can't tell if the casting is the same or not due to exhaust piping to the turbo.
If there are those interested keep tract of this thread and I may try to obtain the psd engine (t444e).
Hey after reading several threads on here this kind of job sounds like something punkmechanic would tackle or has tackled. If some one knows him ask him if he would look over the thread and throw in his $0.02.
