I posted earlier this week about a friend with a 4700 ih the had a knock loss of power and coolant in the oil. Well went to check it out tonight and find the knock is pretty serious. And that the motor in the truck is a t444e which if I understood the tech article post about idi history the t444e is the powerstroker. Did I understand that correctly.
The plot thickens. He has a couple of moters that he has sitting in his shop that he thinks could be used as a replacement and ask me to take a look. Well turns out one is a 7.3 idi no known history and the other is a 7.3 idi that was reman'ed by jasper engines "about 10k niles ago". The no history motor has no IP and everything else looks to be there. The jasper engine was removed from a wrecked truck and has a damage to a valve cover the oil pan and two injectors. Other wise looks as though it could be a 10k mile motor.
My delima. As I am new to the idi and psd I'm unsure if these engines will swap. Everything looks like it will but I was unable to compair the "bell housing/rear motor mount" bolt patterns of the two different engines. The truck has a manual shift trans so there would be no know conflict there. I'm calling jasper engines next week to try and get some history on how long ago this engine was reman'ed by them. Making the change from a psd to an idi shouldn't be a problem just a power wire to the IP and then the require guages.
Can someone verify the "bell housing" issue for me. Oh I about forgot will the flywheel off the psd bolt to the idi.
Sorry for such a long post but trying to show that I've done a little of my homework.
