Engine Swap Opinions

Well as most of you know I am kinda on the lookout for a motor. Mine is still running but going down slowly. The two ideas I am throwing around are buying a new reman complete. found one with the turbo added and all for $7000 ready to drop in the truck. Or find an F350 with a 7.3L that I can steal parts from. The thing that scares me there is not knowing how the motor may have been maintained. But on the other hand that would get me my solid front axle as well. Not really sure what to do. I am going to have to go into debt either way so I am more concerned about the longevity and buildabilty than the money. What do ya'll think?

what would it cost to get a donor and do a complete rebuild? then drop that in?

I think if I were faced with your delema, I would by a reman short block, and build it up myself to save some coin. I don't trust high milage undocumented 7.3's. Period. I'd sooner throw a 6.9 in a truck if I weren't going to rebuild it.
