picked up a block that "fastestIDIinthe707" last weekend.
this was purchased as a mock up block.

boy i sure am glad i took everything...
heads may be cracked.

but from what ive read in this post, this sure is a turbo engine.

From Gary on my engine post a while back.


A turbo block serial number starts at 1,116,331 and goes up from there. Just looking at the oil ports and seeing they are 1/4 inch plug instead of the na 6.9 or 7.3 blocks having the 1/8th inch plugs in all the oil gally ports..


Looks like it is a regular non turbo engine. It definitely has the small wrist pins. 28 mm vs the turbo engines having 33 mm.

I actually have a factory turbo block engine, that has small wrist pin Pistons in it. It was not a turbo from the factory, but production numbers for my block are in line with the 1994 model truck it came out of.

Brians block doesn't have a late enough production number to be a turbo casting. Starts at 1 million something, his is 600,000 something.

The first na 7.3 block serial number was 507,079 and went up to 116,330. Then the turbo block was 116,331 and up. It also had the letter K in the serial number. ALL the na blocks have the D in the serial number be it a 6.9 or 7.3. The only real way of determining if you have a turbo block is to open it up and check for the inconel exhaust valves and the large wrist pin rods and pistons. A turbo block can be dressed as a na engine too just by replacing the pistons and rods with na stuff. Its cheaper and done all the time. the na rods fit the 6.9 or the 7.3 and can replace the turbo rods in the factory turbo blocks. Anyone can make a na block a turbo block too. Just install turbo rods and pistons. then have it balanced correctly.
