Electric Break controler Box

The truck came equipped ( I think or it could been after market ) with the electric break controller box inside the cabin . Explain how does it work in perfect world.

I have a single axle trailer am towing and all the light's working like they should . The only thing that i do not see working or don't know is box because i simply do not know what is suppose to do ..!

There is a small led light Incorporated on top of the controller inside the cabin . It also have a gear you can adjust it and sprung leaver of sort ( I will take a Pic ) . In my buddy truck which is a GM his break controller similar but have light on it . I am assuming mine not working but i can read 12v at the red . Again all the trailer and truck work and interact correctly

It won't work unless your trailer has brakes.

Quick check. What kind of electrical connector does the trailer have. If it has the "flat 4":

The trailer does not have brakes.

Normally for brakes they have a 6 or 7 connector plug, the most common being the Round 7 "RV" Plug:

As you can see with this wiring diagram, the provision for trailer brakes isn't even included in the standard wiring until you reach the 6 pin plug. The 7 gives brakes and a charge line for 12v to the trailer.

If you have a trailer with electric brakes, (Usually at least a tandem axle trailer) if all is working correctly the LED should light. I have a Teconsha Voyager and mine turns green when I have a trailer with brakes connected and it has a good connection. It turns from green to orange to red depending on hoe much braking it is doing. Mine is an inertial type controller.

My guess is a small utility trailer will not have brakes. We've had several trailers. A couple boats and several utility, and a camper. I've also towed several "car trailers". Only the big boat (23' Sea Ray), the camper and the car trailers had brakes. (The Boat and the U-Haul Car and Box trailers have surge brakes, not electric brakes, which is a different animal all together) the small boat (16' Outboard) and the utility trailers we have (2 ~4x8 flatbeds and a ~5x12 3500lb cap flatbed) do not have brakes at all.

Very helpful and great info guys , The trailer def 4 flat without brakes it's a dummy box trailer and the only thing fancy about it is the droop down ramp gate style to load the race bikes

The Red lite comes on and says you have power going to the BRAKES.
The little wheel adjusts the amount of voltage (BRAKING PRESSURE) going to the BRAKES.
The lever is for manually applying voltage to the BRAKES.

I broke my brakes. Then I broke a break in a 1/4" plate with my press brake (Cinncinnati 150 ton mechanical- 1965 vintage-12 foot bed length)

Think that's right. not sure tho.

Actually some singles do have brakes but only the heavier end of things. Back in the day, they built things heavier before going to tandem. A lot of the older 16-18 foot travel trailers were single with brakes.
