Hey guys my e40d finally failed :( I don’t have enough money for a zf5 but I have a 1986 truck with a 6.9 with a jasper rebuilt t-19. I want to put the t-19 in place of the e40d in my 1993 7.3.

Few questions what problems will I run into with this swap?
Will the flywheel out of my 6.9 work? Will the drive shaft fit?
Also what should I do about my steerin colum on the automatic? Do I need to change the computer? Thanks

Everything should fit other then maybe drive line. No computer to worry about as the engine does not need or use one. Steering column can leave , just remove shifter handle. never have done it myself , but with both trucks in front of you just start comparing things.

He was asking about the computer that controls the E4OD. I think it should be fine like it is.
Knew that was what he was asking, and agree just leave it. Being never done one before not really sure how things compare between the two body styles.

The computer won't matter. Take a look in the truck you get the pedals out of, I think the transmission wiring is a "stand-alone" harness. Unplug the E4OD harness at the plug, and replace with the one for the ZF-5.

Pedal assembly will need to come from your generation of truck. The Bullnose (80-86) pedal box will not fit in your OBS (92-97) Also, move over the floor pan, or get the one from the doner, since the Bullnose has teh 4x4 shifter come through the floor in a different location. If you move the transmission and transfer case together, , that the floor pan from the 85

If you re use your t case and shifter, you will be able to re use your carpet or whatever you have. If you use the shifter and t case from the other truck it comes out of the top of the floor hump instead of the side like you have now.

The first thing that is going to happen right after the swap is it will not crank over. There are two blue/red wires that run down to the neutral safety switch that used to be there with the E4OD. Since neutral safety is no longer in place, there will be no continuity between these two red/blue wires, so no power to the starter. If you can find these two wires, you need to twist them together.

I forgot, if you leave the stock steering column, you will probably not even be able to turn the key to crank it over. When the shifter is disconnected it falls down and the column thinks the E4OD is in gear, and it will not let the key work correctly. What I had to do was go out under the hood and take a piece of mechanics wire and tie the linkage lever up. Then the column thinks it's in park all the time, and that lets the key work. I took a punch and knocked the pin out and took the shifter lever off, and then took a black piece of tape and covered over the PRND21 thing in the cluster.
