Rebuilding a t-19 here and every time I put the front part of the main shaft in it was to bind up on me and I fail to understand why
Counter shaft smooth as butter
Same with reverse
1 and 2 gears are very smooth shifts wonderfully
3rd has a little resistance
But everytime I go to put the front/ 4th it’s just wrong
I’ve ran though the digrams youtube many times it appears to be all correct
I’ve taken the main shaft back apart going on 4th time

Not putting the 4th gear scynco in it runs flawlessly smooth

Isn't there two different thickness front bearings ?

I ran into that when I built my T-19. I had gotten a new input shaft/main drive gear and had to run a narrower front bearing. At least I believe so...that was three years ago. I saved the old parts, just in case.

I ordered a HD front bearing...more balls in between the races...'They' (the parts supplier) called it a 'max load' bearing.

Can't remember if I used the oil slinger on it, either. That would change the clearance, as well.

Look at your old parts and measure the front bearings.

Good luck on it.

Oh, one other thing...the snap rings are different thicknesses...to enable you to adjust oil clearances... it would be good to check your oil clearances between each gear and the shaft and thrust washers.

If third is snug maybe it needs a little more oil clearance.

I thought I’d the bearings too, I tried using the old bearing same effect
Same with syncros
So it up shifted fine but always grinded down into 3rd rarely grinded just a hard down shift Into second
What I find odd is that the old syncros look great infact in places new next to told and the only way I could tell which was new was old had 2 dots

If I assemble with no 4th syncro it’s smooth as silk

But the way the syncro just sits on 4th gear it just wants to be tight as hell

Here is a picture of the old 3rd and 4th syncros
1st and 2nd look much the same condition. I’m finding this odd

I have a yard full of those kind of projects....

Probably something simple, usually is getting things back together. Now you will have a good running transmission.

I have a T-19 rebuild kit I got from Bronco Grave yard for a good price, think they were phasing them out.
Replace the T-19 in the 86 for one out of an 85 at PNP which runs great. Thought the 86 had a problem which turned out to be something else.

Thanks for the reply.
