Guys,
in your opinion, is rebuilding my tranny in my 2 whl drive a job someone can do at home with no previous experience. I was a millwright equipment repair tech. But not sure if this is a do it yourself project or does it require too many specialized tools, also is there machine work for any suggested upgrades that would need to be performed.

thanks for your thoughts in advance.

I'm sure it can be.. And has been done. Worst thing if you mess it up you don't know till it's all back together. I hate doing things twice!

Might want to look into the special tools for this but yes.. It can be done at home but others that have actually done it will chime in on whats really needed in tools.

There are special tools needed but you could buy them and do it at home. Ive heard 2wd units are a little more of a pain to do.. something with the output shaft. I always wanted a 4wd unit in a 2wd with the super duty tail housing parking brake

You will need a couple of special tools to reassemble your tranny. To start get your hands on a copy of the ATSG E4OD manual. Read through it.

Important stuff, keep everything clean. Replace any out of spec parts. Do all the updates. Don't drop the output shaft when you remove the PITA snap ring. Be sure everything is clean.
If you get stumped ask away. Better yet post carnage photos.:D

Yes, your going to need a couple of special tools to take the clutch packs out and apart. Yes, you need that ATSG manual, order on line from them. $29. When you take it apart, pay special attention to how the sprags come out, one way turn is free turn, opposite is grab, they will assemble either way. Gonna be a ***** on a bench flat. I had pics of how I attached mine to an engine stand so I can roll it. WebShots killed them, sorry. Get the tag numbers off the tranny, there are a couple of updates you can do. If yours don't have the spiral snap ring, 1st one on the coast clutch be sure and order it I buy all my parts from PATC. If you do any towing, look below.

I had no luck rebuilding a th350. The 3rd time i pulled it to tear it back apart was when it went to a trans shop. The shops here use a dodge 727 case for a stand. Put the bell housing on the ground then put your trans on the other end standing up.
