I met a few guys from TDR in Sac about 4 yrs ago at Imlers diesel during a dyno event. 2 guys had compound turbo'd 1st gens. One was around 450, the other did 607 with over 1000lbs tq. I rode in the 600hp truck, getting up to speed on the freeway was effortless. The 600hp truck was a toy and the guy wasn't afraid to throw money at it when something broke and he was also using a lot of one off specialty parts. The 450hp truck was a work truck so it was fairly simple and dead reliable, it was a p-pumped 24 valve though.
