The DB2 is truly a Marvelous piece of "machinery", just think of how many revolutions it has made in a 100,000 miles, like a Timex watch, just keeps ticking.
Yes I'm amazed with how intricate injection pumps are and the abuse that they are able to tolerate especially with this ulsd garbage we get now. But, I have always driven old beater diesels and grew up on a farm with old beater tractors, equipment and semis and I currently have a handful of old timers and the DB2 pumps are definitely the first ones to require attention. I have had half a million mile vw's, toyota's, nissans, cats, macks, Perkins some with rotary and some with inline pumps and still were not rebuilt. And the db2 rigs always get a lube additive like stanadyne or howes and regular filter changes and rarely see over 150,000 miles before needing a rebuild. Thats still a good lifespan but im just voicing my opinion. My current one is a baby moose built by Mel and performs excellent and surely will out live others I have had; but, the overall picture for me isn't praising the db2. That to me is the biggest drawback to owning a ford/gm idi. Sorry to rant, but after enough pump replacements, I'm getting tired of it. That's why I chose to buy from someone like Mel this time around in hopes that it will be trouble free. But on the upside, the BB-2 is $650 instead of $1500 to get rebuilt, so..... Its kind of a toss up for me. I think I would rather have a more expensive pump in service and have it last that much longer..... Just my $.02
