Is it possible to lift the Dana 44 split front axle without compromising the robustness? I know that they aren't the greatest axle to put under a diesel and that they like to wear out a lot. Any input on what I should do and if its a good idea? I'm thinkin only a couple inches. Give it a little bit more aggressive of a stance. Also anyone know a good place to get a Lund visor for the cab? I think the look cool and really want one.

The higher you go and the bigger the tire all make it MORE prone to failure, as if it is not bad enough in stock format

Do you know if it would clear 33's stock? i will prob just go with a 285/75 or whatever. It would look ok with that. Maybe a solid axle swap will happen eventually!

33s will fit stock as long as your springs are not shot. 285s would fit even better because they are narrower

Sounds like that's what I will go with. Well after I get it on the road lol I have no time to work on it because it is two hours away from where I go to school! Money is always an issue as well lol! I think 285's will look good on it, the tires in the picture are 265's and they don't look that small. I can't decide if I like the hubcaps or just the black rims.

And although the Dana44HD's arent all that strong, as long as you keep things mild they should be fine. I wouldnt try to do any 4wd launches or anything. Mine has held up fine to 60-65mph wheel spin in mud, but then again its not like I hit a hard patch and grabbed traction (4wd high 3rd gear on the govenor is roughly 62-64mph)

I feel like there was more to that reply. I'll probably have to rebuild it because it sat for so long. the truck has 105,000 orig miles to so its prob about due for new bushings and the like.

My 44 was shot but still drivable. Everything looked original plus the Jackwagon who owned it before was jumping the truck at the sand dunes cookoo.

If it goes out again I'm going for a 60 LOL, replaced almost everything.

give the axle some credit yall. there really not that bad, 4x4 launches arent good for any axle. a buddy of mine has an 85 f250 that had a dana 44hd, and it went threw hell and back with only one broke axle in the 4-5 years of hell he's put it threw, most of the time with military 36s.

A 4" lift and 35s would do it just fine. They are not a particularly week axle, the problem is going to be wheel bearings and center pivot joint bushings. Get a set of poly bushings, a new set of timken wheel bearings and it will handle it just fine. Also, ditch those UGLY factory wheels for some aluminum ones just my $.02
