Thanks for the moral support, Tom and Mike. I think I can get it worked out, even if it requires the skills of the machine shop. Too bad my old welder/blacksmith/metalsmith/general bad ass ex-girlfriend ain't around. Well, for this at least.

That fragile sticker in UPS speak means "KICK HERE"
Last time I dropped a fragile package off at the UPS store I loudly asked the clerk for some "Fragile, Kick Here" stickers to put on the package in front of about 3 or 4 other customers. Boy did I get a dirty looking glare from the clerk...... The customers in the store were all laughing their ***** off.
The damage looks like forklift damage.

drive up there and put a boot in his ass because he saw you coming i never buy nothing with out personly seeing it because i have had that happen to me a lot buy parts and they show pics and say all well there was nothing wrong with it when i had it you must have droped it or it always the people like uss that need suff like that in a bad way get screwed when it rains it pores trust me i know

I spoke with the shipper today and filed a claim with UPS. UPS was nice and aggreeable and even said it sounds like it was their fault. The shipper took out no insurance on it so all I can get is $100. But it looks like I have found a core turbo for $100, so if that works out I can rob the housing off of it and it'll be a wash. 
Looks like it'll be fine in the end.
I do get tired of having to lord over everything myself all the time If I don't it goes in the pooper. Oh well.

Looks like it may turn out OK for you.
When UPS sends the check for the insurance amount on something they goof up like this they also reimburse the shipping charges too so make sure you press the shipper for the $100 + the shipping costs he charged you if the check is sent to him.

They said the check WILL be sent to the shipper. It would be nice to get the shipping back for it too, but since the shipper ate the shipping on this deal, I don't know who should get that. Oh, wait, yeah I do- ME!

Yes... My crapluck is turning around. At least I have the freeze plugs in and they help 35 lbs of pressure and didn't take off a sack. I was really staying out of harms way of the shrapnel that had my name on it. Problem was it spelled my name wrong.... I shipped the pistons back to Diesel Direct Friday so they will have them on Thursday and I'm just cleaning parts and waiting........

I just found out that UPS IS honoring the claim , BUT... the yard with the $100 core turbo can't find it and called off their search, idiots
so the damaged part is now in the hands of the machine shop boys. I got some worried looks from them, but they think they can get it back right. My fingers are crossed.

Good news on UPS
If the machine shop can't fix it you might try giving this guy a call.

He has a good reputation and might have one laying around off of a junk turbo. I bought a rebuild kit and I just sent my shaft to get balanced with the Banks wheel I purchased from him today.

Well well well, the turbo is sitting in the garage reassembled. The machine shop did a great job, and it cost me $110. Just waiting on some things from ATS to arrive so I can put the whole thing on the truck.
Whew, glad that part's over with.

They first welded the crack and tapped it out, then built up that side and turned it down to make it round again. They went easy on the bevel but it was too tight, so I filed the edge down to restore a uniform bevel. Now its nice and tight and I'll be able to get the turbo in the hat without too much of a fight.
Incidentally, when I was calling around trying to find a replacement housing, one of the rebuilders I spoke with said that out of every 3 of these that comes in to the shop, 2 of them will be cracked.

Sweeeeeeet, Glad it's turning around fer ya. UPS gets the checks out pretty quick once they decide to honor the claim so hopefully that comes for you pretty soon and puts the pain completely behind.
