Clutch Slave Cylinder Fell Out?

So I took my truck for a drive yesterday. Pulled in the driveway, and when I pushed the clutch in to move the truck a few inches, the pedal just went to the floor. Shut her off, looked around, and found the clutch slave cylinder dangling out from underneath the truck. It popped clear out of place.
Anyone else had this happen? The slave cylinder is held in place by a big metal clip and that's it. I've heard of some kind of retaining strap but not sure what they look like. I think I'll be makin' my own today...........

I haven't heard of this happening, that clip is not easy to get on and off normally. The retainer you are talking about is a plastic piece that fits over the rod end of the cylinder, and it has two plastic arms that look like wire ties that tie the cylinder rod back so it doesn't extend and possibly damage the cylinder before it's installed, as well as making it easier to install.

Have you serviced this recently?? If so, it sounds like the clip wasnt pushed all the way over the lip on the bellhousing. This happened to me once and on the zf, I put a self tapping screw in the aluminum to hold the slave bracket in place (just in case)

Yes, it's been messed with recently. This was only the 3rd time I've driven the truck since I swapped the engine/trans over. I was pretty confident I got the clip all the way in, but I was also pissed at thing when I wrastled it into place (clutch bleeding). I'm just going to shoot a tek screw through it like you did to make sure.

Ya that worked well for me, and I too thought I had the clip snapped in.

Sounds like you didn't have the thing installed correctly in the first place. Aint no way it's gonna come out if the clip isn't fubared and you have it in right. If a screw is needed, your only fixing the symptom and not the problem. I'd go over everything really well and possibly replace the slave cylinder, clip and clutch fork.

I'll have to crawl under there and take a second look. The thing was good to go for over 100K miles before I pulled it from the donor truck, so something changed; I've just got to figure out what.
