clutch problem

In the F-350 described in my sig, when i start the truck up, sometimes it won't go into first or reverse unless you shut the engine off. Also the clutch has to be pulled back up with your foot every time you use it(probably just a bad spring, how hard is it to get to that?). Any suggestions are heavily appreciated. I don't want the clutch to go out and leave me sitting on the side of the road.

Where the master pushrod connects to the pedal assembly is known for wearing out.

Could be low on fluid..... but the bushing on the master cylinder push rod is the usual culprit.....

by the time i got to mine... the steel pushrod hole was egg-shaped and the companion stud was half gone!

As others have recommended, crawl up under your dash and inspect the pushrod to the clutch master cylinder where it attaches to the linkage from the pedal. When they wear out the problem that you describe occurs. Also problematic can be the firewall cracking and allowing the master cylinder to move.

If you install the clutch rod repair end, be sure not to cut your old rod too short!

Also the bushings that are installed in the clutch pedal linkage can wear and result in this problem.
