I believe the oil pressure sender on our IDIs is actually a pressure switch, and is not actually measuring oil pressure. I would like to put in a sender that sends a signal proportional to the pressure, and I would like to hook that up to the factory gauge on the dash. Has anyone done that?

I think that the factory gauge in the dash has a resistor in series with it, which I could jumper across if I had a sender which varies its resistance as oil pressure changes. Does anyone have a line on an oil pressure sender like that?

I re-reviewed the tech articles. I found a pretty good one on replacing your stock gauges with aftermarket, and fitting them into the original dash, but that's nothing like what I'm asking.

I'm looking for a sender that can work with the original oil pressure gauge, to replace the stock oil pressure switch. Is there an existing thread that covers that? Searching and reviewing the tech articles didn't turn up anything.

I just looked and Rock Auto has the Motorcraft SW1547B for $19.79 plus shipping (and you can get almost a buck off with the always-available 5% discount). O'Reilly lists it for $45.99!

My stock sender moved the gauge according to our pressure. The replacement was just an on off switch.

You have a 6.9 though. Generally speaking, the 6.9s have senders, the 7.3s have switches.

Just looked on Amazon and the same switch is $19.00 with prime shipping, if it helps.

Thanks for the part number, guys!
