This is my first post but I’ve been lurking here for a couple months. I recently picked up a 1984 f250 sclb 6.9 4x4 with a 4 speed with 120k miles.

A little back history first.

The truck had been sitting for over 3 years. I slapped some new batteries in it, did an oil change, changed the fuel filter, replaced massively leaking injector return lines and filled up both tanks with fresh fuel. I got it up and running with a shot of ether (manual glow plug system/did not cycle glow plugs) and drove it 4 hours home with no issues whatsoever.

Previous owner said that he was having glow plug issues and it wouldn’t start and that was the reason he parked it.

When I got home I pulled all the glow plugs out (autolites) almost every tip was swollen or cracked, cylinder 3 was even missing the entire end and who knows how long it has been like that. New motocraft glow plugs were put back in.

Should I pull the glow plug back out on cylinder 3 and put a borescope down the hole to check to make sure it’s not still in the precup or would it have broken up and been sent out the exhaust valve by now? Again truck ran great the entire 4 hour drive home with no smoke out the exhaust, good power on hills and the whole 9 yards. Even got 16 mpg cruising at 63 mph. Just trying to gauge how concerned I would be.

Thanks and sorry for the long winded post!

If nothing it happening I would not be concerned but it never hurts to be sure
personally I would check it out with a boroscope

Especially after a 4 hour drive. If you were going to have a problem, it would have already happened. Of course if you really want to use a bore scope, then go ahead and do it. I just don't think it will benefit you in any way.
