My 89f350 4x4 srw 5spd has some brake issues. When I press brakes, I can almost come to complete stop before lights ever come on. I checked the switch, and when I press brakes far enough to lose contact to switch, lights still aren't on. I have to go a lil further. I thought the switch is what turns them on or off? There is something else connected to the pedal though. Not sure what it's for but it has two connections of wire on it. Can some one please explain how this system works and what I should do to fix this? Also, rear antilock light stays on.

this is a threaded switch thats mounted on the pedal assembly,
unplug pig tail
turn switch counter clock wise.
plug it in and inspect.
repeat if not satisfied.

i will be using a pressure switch on mine and deleting this switch.

I was trying to explain that in my post, the threaded switch will be completely not touching pedal, and lights still not on. Have to go a lil further.

Get some electric parts cleaner and hose the plunger part out well!

Or replace it.

So what is the purpose of the plastic switch with the button? It appears to be connected to a vacuum line.

Pic request!
The vacc line goes to the vacc solenoid from the linkage, never seen a plunger go thru firewall.

The rod that goes through to booster? I'm just not really tracking what you are referring to I guess

follow the brake pedal up from where your foot pushes on it, where that pedal connects to the booster pushrod is the brake light switch. There are two wires.

Yea I've gotten that far with it. But can't figure why I have to press pedal so far for it to activate. I did a continuity test on it and it works fine as it should.
