Bought a junk yard turbo

Its an ATS kit, they use a Garrett turbo. You are missing a lot of stuff to get this to work unfortunately. You need the crossover pipe, the passenger side exhaust manifold/crossover y pipe, and downpipe. You will also need to move the CDR (ATS puts it on the valvecover), then an intake of sorts.

Remove your air filter and you will see the CDR (tuna can)mounted to the back of the intake. The CDR has a tube that goes through the valley pan, sealed with a grommet. You will need a different grommet to fit the oil return tube. If this is your daily driver you will need to round up a bunch of missing parts before putting your truck out of service. typ4 (post #4) is the source for a lot of this stuff. Look at the link I posted. There are lots of pictures that show how it all goes together.

Before you install the oil return line in the valley pan, that is if the engine has never been tore down and pan has been replaced, thru that CDR hole in the valley pan, take a drift or something like that and punch some holes 3 or 4 in the baffle that's on the underside of the pan to insure enough oil returns to the crankcase. If not done, there is a possibility oil can blow up around the tube in the grommet.

I have new castings for that and I have 100 nos IH valley grommets for the drain.

I think between my brother-in-law (he's a welder) and I we can make the up pipes work. I'm planning on doing a 3.5" exhaust at the same time. I have looked at some other places for the CDR, just need to figure out how i'm going to route it.

Do you have a picture of this? I am not quite sure what you are talking about.

No pics yet and yes they are new.

If you dont have the Y piece, its not easily fabbed.

Was that already removed at a yard? Thats the kinda stuff they do, forget critical pieces.

They just see a turbo and go OOOOHHHH a Turbo, lets pull that.

Yeah, all the other pieces were tossed or something. The only reason I got it is because the people at Conestoga Diesel said they have those parts for purchase. So hopefully they really do have those parts or hopefully I can find those at a different junkyard.

Whereabouts in Utah are you? Just curious.

You're missing several components that are no longer made and difficult to source. At one time that turbo was part of a complete kit, at this point- I hate to say it but it would take a lot of time, money and effort to make it work unless you can find what's missing.

Keep your eyes open, I've seen complete used turbo kits pop up on KSL randomly over the years for $250-$500. I would not attempt building the parts/up pipes unless the engine was sitting on a stand. Even when they're complete they are a pita to install fwiw.

Looks like an ATS 093 to me. Nearly identical to the factory turbo kits offered on the 93-94 IDI's.
