Hi all, new member bit I've uses this site as a resource for a long time. Y'all are great. Was reseating my block heater and due to previous owner mistakes lost the spring and other latch piece inside. If I can't fish them out will they hurt anything?

Naw it wont hurt anything. Mine sprung a leak years ago so I replaced it with a regular freeze plug.

I doubt it will harm your engine unless it works it's way up to the water pump. I would try to fish it out with a magnet but if it's gone it's gone

Wont hurt a thing. No chance it will "float" and plug up any passages. Try a magnet and small inspection mirror to find it. As already posted.... you can install a normal cupped type freeze plug too. The opening size is 1 1/4 inch.

I think those pieces are brass or something similar. They're probably not magnetic. Of course I could be wrong. Either way, it won't hurt for them to be in there.
