I don't think the early ones had oil squirters for piston cooling. 1984.5 and earlier I think. And nor have I seen a destroyed 6.9 other then a thrown rod due to a hydrolock situation that should have been corrected in the first place. Id take any 6.9 over a 7.3 Ive seen far too many valve/guide and cavitation issues that I won't be purchasing another unless its a parts truck. Even though I have also seen them run for 500k plus. ...but still.
