The key to starting these beasts is to make sure ALL of the starting components are up to *****. Loose efficiency in any of the components and it turns into trouble. Starter, Battery Cables, Batteries, Glow Plugs, and Alternator are all needed to be in good operating condition for reliable cold weather starting.
I've fired mine in -30 F temps without using the block heater, or ether.
I just installed a gear reduction stater on the 93. It spins so fast, it's almost scary!
