Ok so I have taken the e4"oh no" out of my 91 to put on a 4 speed that I had laying around. As I was putting on the 4 speed flywheel I noticed the back of the crankshafts sticks out an inch further on the previously automatic engine. And this one inch less of clearance means the standard won't fit. Anybody had this problem before? Do they make a bellhousing spacer?

Do not throw away that spacer... Nobody makes them any longer. And when you change from a early heavey cast iron flywheel flexplate you will need that spacer.. Or others will need it. There should be thousands of them laying around the wrecking yeards from people removing a flexplate.... But no such luck... I have two spares. I went thru hell getting the correct spacer when I installed my E4OD from Brians Truck Shop..(BTS).... He has a machine shop fab them as needed and they made mine 1/4 inch too thin. I tried to instal the new flexplate for the triple disc converter because my old heavy cast iron setup was not going to fit the converter. Its that much larger and believe me I tried to make it fit cause I felt what the hell... Maybe I know something they don't... Nope.. Wont fit.. Anyway as I tightened the flexplate bolts they went thru the crank flange and bottomed out on the rear main bearing edge chamfer. Rounded off the first thread...
When I felt the flexplate was still not tight to the crank and the starter geat was ingauged to the wheel I knew something was wrong. Measurements and many phone calls later I had what I needed... But removeing those few bolts with the threads rounded off was hell. Lots of suffering removeing them bolts. All the time hopeing the bolts were not going to gauld in the crank or break off. The engine was in the truck so... Replaceing the crank was not any remote of an option now was it. I chased the threads on the bolts and ground off the rolled threads. Then greased up a tap and ran that into the crank... Truns out the crank is much harder material than the bolts... Good thing too it was... Kinda a long story but interesting non the less.

Not a damn thing wrong with an E4OD if there built right and taken care of like they should be. Everything wears out even manuals, wonder why so many posts on how to rebuild them and the noisy rollover, clutches going out, throw out bearings, shifter forks breaking and on and on. I'll race anyone with a manual. Yeah, the E4OD's get burn't up towing by those that don't know how to tow and don't have the proper cooling for them. Not bashing anyone, just saying.
The f250 I took it out of has 170,000 miles and that was its second transmission. However I didn't pull it because I'm afraid of the e40d going out. I just prefer driving a standard because they are much dinner to drive. I also feel if everybody was forced to learn to drive a standard, 90% of those horrible drivers that cause accidents that could have been avoided, wouldn't be on the road in the first place. Or they would have learned to drive better because for most people standards require more concentration, and control. Just saying

I rather have the E4OD over a ZF.
But I don't leave the E4 stock so reliability is not a problem. If you decide to get rid of the spacer, I will gladly take it away.

Could be worse. I was texting this girl i had met a few days before asking her if she wanted to hang after class and my iphone changed it to bang... Didn't go over very well and of course you don't see it until you already hit send. Wouldn't talk to me for another week or so until a friend of her's said her iphone did the same thing.
