Probably is. those thin tools have a bad habit of getting splayed out to uselessness.

I once rented a set of fan wrenches at advance auto.... they were all splayed out to the point of being useless.

I've never had any issues with mine. The only reason I'd see any issues with spreading them out is if someone did something stupid like put locktite on the fan threads.

I just use a very large set of channel locks and a 1 7/8 wrench to get the fan clutch on and off.

When the ***** I worked for fired me when I was hurt at work two of the guys in the shop almost cried when they found I was leaving and taking my tools with me. That set is the only way to get the fan clutch off a 6.0 or a Duramax.

aren't you supposed to locktite them?

I know I did on mine, after having the fan unthread itself, and wiped out the rad..
it was the original clutch/waterpump as well, so I know it was properly torqued..

I was attempting to climb a loose rough hill, and the clutch was locked, and the fan had enough inertia to unthread itself when I let off, and it went from the governor to idle

No locktite. I'm the opposite as I use antisieze on mine.

I never use locktite on ours. I have used antiseize before one water pump threads that have seen better days but other than that I use nothing most of the time. Many years ago we had a fan roll off, but never since then and that's hundreds of thousands of miles on idis around here with no locktite and have never had any problems with them. We had one truck that had locktite on it when we bought it and ruined the fan clutch trying to get it off. That fan clutch cost us almost $400 to replace.

got a set of "farmer's wrenches" + cheater bar + hammer... is what I always use for fans. That Impact hammer set is the best though.
