ATS turbo?

Saw one at the wreckers, cartridge feels tight, all exhaust plumbing is there, it's just missing the intake hat and filter. The up/down pipes are one piece, is this a good one? What's it worth? I may hang onto it in case my Banks craps out someday.

one piece up pipes? never heard of that on an ats... maybe a custom job w/ats turbo does it look like this?

It looked weird to me too, not like yours or my Banks. It's a cast piece, up pipe leads the exhaust through the turbo and then back down the other half of the pipe. No 3" pipe hooking into the side of the housing. I had to look twice to see if that was how it really worked. I was killing some time between calls and couldn't climb in to get a better look. I may just need to bring the big tools and pull it.

Is it maybe an 085 kit? I thought that they might have the odd looking up and down pipes all cast as part of the hot side of the turbo.

The pictures that tractorman86 posted are of the 085. A single piece up pipe was used on the 088 turbocharger. Sounds like that might be what you have unless its wastegated. Just a warning that the intake hat can be hard to find unless you can make one up.

I can make one if I decide to run it. I'll pull it and see what shape it's in. It does look like it may fit my Chevy better than the Banks does. Not that I'll pull the Banks yet. Or I'll try to build the intake side to make it complete and sell it to some needy soul here!

Is it an ok turbo? What kind of boost does it make compared to my Sidewinder?

Probably comparable. Like any other none wastegated turbo, you are going to have to pass 2000 RPM before you see any real boost. I've since upgraded my compressor to a larger one, but it still doesn't really boost that well. I can manage about 12 PSI right now.

is the banks non wastegated also? my dad has one on a 92 7.3 a/t and that thing was an animal, so IIRC you can see 8-10 if you adjust your IP just right.

My Sidewinder is wastegated and the ATS looks to be non. The way I got my donor truck it made about 14psi. Probably going to turn it down once I try it out in the hill here.
