The banks is almost the same turbine size as factory, bigger if anything, the comp is quite a bit bigger.
My mods to factory style will surpass a banks, and parts are easily available.
A non gated turbo is great for automatic trucks and with a wheel mod they really wake up.
AND any turbo is better than none.

I've got the turbo install on my truck fairly well sorted. Corey and I installed a baby moose pump and some moose mate injectors and timed it to 9.5*, making 7-9 psi. I disconnected the wastegate hose and now it is making 10-12 psi. In both cases, egt's were holding at about 1050* max.
Thoughts?

For ease of removal and installment, I preferred the ATS 093/factory turbo. The parts just seemed to fit better to me.

Time for some homework.
Hit the tech section, then the stickies.

Russ does a LOT of mods so to best answer your ?you should start a separate thread.

A lot is anecdotally (?sp?) Stuff picked up along the way.
There are turbo, and intercooler (ficm) threads.
Conestoga diesel moose boost, r-d idi site also.
Type4 aka Russ bought out ats's spares, is the guru for tweaks.
I bought both trucks already turbo'd so I dunno jack.
Search the topic, there is a ton of info here.
Note the recurring statement's made.
If you go way back, IIRC once we had a guy swear to gawd he could build a 30mpg idi .....
Where is he now?
Get the drift?
You donot see 400bhp quoted for idi's
Nore much +20 mpg

Mel,Justin,Russ
In no particular order, are the guru's for idi performance!

That's what I have understood, just wanted to make sure I didn't overlook a thread. I've read about updated castings for the ATS 093/Factory setup, cams, wastegate mods spread all throughout the IDI section. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't blind. Couldn't see the forest through the trees.

And thank you @Clb, hopefully this also helps some others getting started also.

IMo factory / 093 is the best option of the three., simply for ease of getting parts, and upgrades. Turbo parts for the banks are hard to find. but as far as turbos go. any turbo is better than no turbo. so if a banks one came up on craigslist I would have jumped on it. I just happened to find a ats 093.

Hook a bungee over the wastegate arm and pull on it. See if it raises boost any. I have one hooked to the alternator bracket.
