anyone here parting out a f250? a/c idle pulley

the previous owner of my 1989 f250 thought it would be cute to save energy by removing the a/c belt so he removed to entire a/c idler pulley unit and lost it - so now i need not just the pulley (found that at an auto part store) but the entire unit. There is some kind of mount that holds it in place (it mounts just below the oil fill tube but it needs to be further out to be in line with the other pulleys) plus it may have some kind of spring mechanism to hold tension (i don't know for sure though).
so i don't have too many options other than spend a couple hundred dollars at a dealship. None of the junkyards here have diesels in them (probably because they are all still on the road!) so that's out.
does anyone have a truck they are parting out and could sell me the unit?

Not sure what your'e looking for.
The 89 I have has the v-belt configuration. Trucks with the A/C delete option have a few less brackets and a spacer block that is needed to maintain the remaining bracket alignment for the P/S pump. In a pinch a piece of 1/2" black pipe can be used to substitue for the spacer.

yours has a different type of mount for the a/c compressor - mine has another section of steel plate that is connected to the area right under the oil fill tube.
maybe i can just ask for an a/c belt for an 88 then? does your a/c compressor belt connect to the power steering pump or the fan or what?

That would be for aftermarket ac, is your compressor a big square looking thing?.
Also is your power steering a dual pulley, if so then your truck was non ac originally.

the a/c compressor is round, not square and not that big really. I am pretty sure this truck came with a/c - but the power steering pump does have a dual pulley. why does that mean it was non a/c originally? can you explain?

Yeah mine is the same that peice it holds the ps in place, let me see my 87 is the same and our work truck too? the belt just goes around the crank and wp. hope this helps?

That is my water seperator, I got it off a bus and that was the easiest place to put it.

run belt from P/S pump to A/C compressor

since i can't find that pulley mount is there any reason why i can't just run a belt from the power steering pump (which has a double pulley) to the a/c compressor? i would just have to measure and try to find the right belt. Or is it supposed to go around the crank/fan pulleys for some reason?

How many grooves are on the bottom pulley? The non ac trucks had 2 groove ps pulleys for some reason. I have that type on mine because it was a non ac truck. I just installed all stock ac brackets and have a belt for that application. It dousne use the second ps groove. going to the ac from ps on your rig will overload the ps pump shaft. Needs to be crank, wp ,ac pump. Unless it is dealer ac then it might have an idler that tensions the belt that may go crank to ac pump.

Most likely dealer installed ac, the type of pump is a york/ tecumseh.
Another way to tell is if the hoses are all rubber with hose clamps instead of crimps, not gospel but a good tell.

i guess all i really need to do is forget about the idler pulley and just try to find a belt that fits perfect around the water pump, fan and a/c pulley - right?
i could take an old belt, cut it open, hold it in place and just go to a parts store and look for one that size.
or do i actually need to use the idler pulley?

my truck has a single groove p/s pully on it. i adjust my a/c pump and take out the slack with the adjusting bolt in the second pic. but this it how mine is. i have no idler on my truck for the a/c. hope this helps.
