I'm weighing options. Seeing if the threaded fitting comes out of the Radiator or is it sweat-fitted into the cooling tank:

This is the Transmission Cooler at the bottom of the Factory Radiator. 1985 Ford 6.9L Club Wagon van.

27mm socket got the locking nut off:

Ideally, I want to connect an -6AN fitting to the Rad. So far the adapters I found still have a small I.D. of
the stock 5/16" hard line.

Thanks in advance!

George

Why do you feel the need to use AN fittings?
I really don't understand this AN fad, especially the people that pay 10 bucks for a fancy colored aluminum fitting when they can get the exact same thing in steel for less than half the price (jic and an are the same 37° flare).

Looking at your second pic, that fitting looks soldered.

Anyone know the thread size of the fitting coming out of the radiator?

Am I correct that they are 1/4 NPT?

Taking that nut off usually results in a coolant leak. Thats not a factory Radiator. Those are soldered, many aftermarket ones are just put on like yours. The threads should be 1/4 pipe.

Thanks chris142,

thought it was 1/4 pipe. Too bad for me, it is a limiting factor to trying to have 3/8" trans cooler hard lines:(

(I still will have 3/8" lines but just noting the journals inside the E4OD are smaller, and now I know the Radiator has smaller
holes too.)

Radiator is original on my van. That outer ring nut is stamped steel, was finger-tight. I see brazing or solder as you mentioned.

Best regards,
George

AN fittings are really nice! i mean the REAL ARMY/NAVY fittings. not those cheezie billet aluminum shiny "im faster than you" fittings.
they are usually leak free and easy to swap out.
i did an entire car in that garbage once. because i was getting paid to do it.
i would never run them on my ride.
altho they are easier to flare than a double flare.

after building many vehicles, i will not run an automatic transmission without an aftermarket cooler.
it makes swapping radiators and working on the car that much easieer.
