icanfixall.............. Below are 2 paragraphs from from Mel regarding moose pumps rebuilds. This info was sent to me directly from Mel. I think Mel a stand up individual and have NOTHING bad to say about him and would buy a pump from him tomorrow if I needed one.
My post above about the price is based on the condition of the pump and what kind of build that you want done to the pump and that is EXACTLY what I stated in my last post !!!!! Before you jump out and call BS on someone or something try reading the info below directly from Mel................
" The Super Moose Pump. This is a monster DB2 created from your running core with 30% more fuel flow than the regular Moose Pump. For DECOMPRESSED, HIGH BOOST, INTERCOOLED, STUDDED, seriously rebuilt motors ONLY. Price - if you have to ask, you can't afford it. Seriously, about twice what a regular Moose Pump costs. Allow up to $2K in your budget. Requires Super Moose Mister injectors or equivalent. "
" The way the pump rebuilds work is this way... you send me the pump and a check for $500. I get your pump rebuilt to my specs (either full Moose Pump, Baby Moose, or Super Moose as you specify). I'll get a bill for labor, calibration, and parts. You'll then send me the difference between the $500 and the final bill, and I ship your pump back all ready to go. I'm sorry I don't have a way to offer a set fixed price. If I did, it would be unnecessarily high, because I don't want to get stuck handling these at a loss. I've had some Moose Pumps cost as much as $1000 so I'd caution you not to get involved if you do not want to commit to a potentially high bill. That's not to say that you couldn't also come out on the cheap side. Most pumps are in the $575 to $675 range. It all depends mostly on how many parts are needed, and what machining operations need to be performed to bring the pump up to spec. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you send YOUR pump. I've had people send me cores that they have grabbed off of shelves, or from friends, or junk yards. These end up being the MOST EXPENSIVE to rebuild. Why? Because they are often rusty inside, are broken, missing parts, or are in a general state of disrepair due to someone trying to fix it themselves, and then figuring out it wasn't so easy. Stanadyne is very proud of their pumps, and they command a large fee for their parts. Truth be told, if you add up the cost of all their parts, it ends up being about 3 times what a whole pump costs. To that end, I have recieved several junk cores that people have sent me to rob parts off of. If your pump needs a particularly expensive part, we will try to get it from our "pump graveyard" Usually you only end up paying for the labor to remove the needed item. As a good will jesture on your part however, and to return the favor to the next person, I may request that you keep your eyes out for a donor pump to send to me at some future time. "
