yes we have had a few inches of lake effect snow over the past week. argh. today the roads were dry but they have laid salt down at least once.

i'm gonna do my underbody oiling ritual and TRY not to drive it until spring. i do have friends coming into town for turkey day weekend though, i don't know if i'll be able to resist taking the CC out for "MAN NIGHT" (four 6'+ guys out partying...it just fits!) i guess it will depend on the weather. we could suffer in the Supercab if we had to.

Heath..my SIL is a realtor for Keller-Williams but she lives outside of Pittsburgh. i don't know if she could help but i can ask.

The guy we bought the F-150 from in Rhoad Island, would load up his paint gun with ATF every fall, and spray the snot out of the whole bottom of the truck. It must have worked great, cause I can tell you sure as can be every spot he missed!

Theres also a parafin wax undercoading that you can use, and it will cling better than ATF. It never cures all the way and it creeps over time. It is absourbed by any surface porosity (like rust) and gets drawn into unsealed seam joints. Whats really critical is to spray the wax or oil up all of the drain holes in the body to get to the places that you can't see but where road salt likes to settle. Don't bother with rubberized undercoating unless the underbody is already mint. Go with something that is oil or wax based and stays sticky after its cured, then unload a few pounds of it under your truck

Lower door edges, rear lower cab corners, wheel arches and any other low parts of the body that are close to wielded joints are the most critical. Don't forget the front crimp joint of the hood. I'd rather have a truck that weeps oil than one that is rusting away. Check you're rear most leaf spring shackles while you're at it.

my former 2003 VW Jetta TDI had that wax style undercoating. it was awesome. still gummy etc and worked great, at least i haven't seen any rusty MK4 VWs

i usually use a ******* brew consisting of Wd40, diesel, and ATF. it's stinky but it works.

i will have to look into the waxy stuff though. i'm sold if i can find it

Theres 2 types. One is intended for inside body the other for under body.

The inside body is translucent amber colored and litterally just a wax that solidifies as it "dries" after application. This makes it idea for spraying it inside doors, or other hollow parts of the body.

The black stuff has a heavy odor of asphalt and cures more solid than the inside so its ideally suited for coating exposed underbody or frame rails.

The stuff I used was made by ProForm. I can look up the product number if you want.

Sure thing....

The amber stuff came in a 1L can and had the number PF-708 on it
The black stuff came in a 1ga jug and had the number PF-707-1 on it.

Both will say right on the container what they are (wax based permanent undercoating).

Neither product can be painted, and are REALLY messy to apply and clean up. Don't use your good coveralls for it!

relax, i cleared out the barn tonight, i can now fit both trucks, the tractor, log splitter, and 4 wheeler in there. i pulled the CC in there for the first time tonight.

i can't wait to get a concrete floor. for now it's gravel. what do you all think i should do to address ground moisture on the truck? park over a tarp?

If you can afford it, it wouldn't hurt to run a few 100W light bulbs under there all season. Use floods pointed up.
