I’m new to diesels and the 6.9. I got this 1984 6.9 with the 4 speed in it and 130,000 miles. The owner says everything runs good and it is rust free but the engine is out of the truck. The owner just got the engine honed and got new head gaskets ARP head studs and a couple other miscellaneous seals and valve cover gaskets. But was left out in a rain storm and might have water in it. What should I do? (The picture is how it was in the storm)

What a shame. If that engine was left in the rain, there is water in every cylinder and the valley

I'd spend money on head gaskets and a valley pan gasket and go at least that far into it. I'd probably want to pull the oil pan too.

No need to pull the plugs without injectors in it.

I'd see if it will turn over without spewing water everywhere. After that, I'd remove the heads and oil pan and see how much rust the rain caused. Depending on what he's asking for it, it might still be worth it.

From the looks of things the IP cover was pulled with the pump. Going to have to remove the front timing cover to insure everything is lined up correctly. I would see how freely it turns over and go from there.
