I've learned a ton about these diesels over the past week but still don't understand them that we'l and need some help now.
When I got this truck a while ago it wasn't running, thought it was the injection pump, replaced it with a good used one, still didn't start, found out it was the lifter pump, replaced and it started up finally, but smoked, whiteish blue smoke a ton! That was when I learned the injection pump act as the timing, tried to set it back to where it was and the smoke went all away, I was impressed how much get up it had, if I floored it i could get a nice little black cloud, especially up Hill.
Well then it sat for a while for other reasons, finally got it running again and it was running bad, I could hear 2 of my injector tapping loud and was pretty sure they were the original ones, so I bought some new ones and finally got them in.
Some back story, when I replaced the injection pump, i had an injector cap strip out, before I knew about different injectors, so I just went to the junk yard and pulled an injector from a truck and stuck it in, which happened to be one of the ones tapping loudly, it was a D injector, my truck had BB, there was another injector that had no label but looked new.. There were also some times while drivin on the road, it would be real slow and sluggish and then get a burst of power, i wouldnt move the throttle at all, sometimes it would throw me back in the seat like a few more cylinders kicked in for a second, then gone. Also, mostly on the freeway recently I've been seeing my fuel light come on, thinking it's because colder then a witches left *** out here, I have winterized diesel fuel.
Anyways, got the injectors replaced, and i replaced them with B injectors cuz i bought them before I really knew the difference, got them installed, loud injector tap is finally gone but it's like it almost has less power.. Havent driven alot but my fuel light hasn't come back on, still doesn't sound that great, like it's clucking instead of chugging.. I feel like an na 7.3 would beat me and I have the ats turbo kit, i can barely get up to speed on the freeway still need to time the pump, but I've tried to get as close as I can, but no matter where I put it doesn't make it sound better. Also I get a little smoke on start up, but even flooring it up Hill my exhaust won't smoke. Also before and now after, ive never been able to get my engine to Rev over like 2500 rpm, and it struggles to get that high.. Should I still be looking at the pump? Sorry for the long winded post, and thanks for the help
