6.9L vs 7.3L Rear Oil Cooler Header

I managed to drop the rear oil cooler header off the workbench and put a dent and a crack in the thin part of the edge, where it tapers in to the inner sealing surface (which isn't damaged). Definite Doof-of-the-Day award. I broke off the 1/16-inch of cracked material from the edge and smoothed it all up with a die grinder and there are no sharp edges... and no damage tot he inner sealing surface (that I can see) but I'm agonizing about putting it back onto a rebuilt engine.

In looking around, I see those ones from U-Haul parts, part# E4TZ6881B, which is listed for '89-90 F350 7.3. Mine is an '86 truck with the two-ring cooler. Will this part fit. I haven't called around yet but this was the only thing I found on a web search. Coupla bills... which I don't mind paying if it fits.

Yep...they fit. Got one on my 6.9. Step up to the later style and do not look back.

Any 6.9 rear header will fit any 7.3 engine but... The van oil cooler rear headers are differant. They will not fit the truck applications.

I got one off a turbo block you could have for two bills, but I can't see where you're at. PM me if your close.

...and just so we are clear, the cooler fits both blocks. The headers are different from the two and have to be used with the right ones, as in single o-ring cartridge goes with single header. The dual must be used with a dual header. Now, prior to you getting it setup, remember the powerstroke header is different and I am not sure if they will work or not. Have heard they will NOT work, but have no idea. If they do, you can get onee off of evilbay for less than 2 hundo.

The psd headers wont fit our blocks. And the o-ring differances are this... Anything you can buy today has two rings on each end. they are a thick and thin o-ring. The older... No longer available coolers had 6 o-rings. They had three on each end and were not the best design so do not even try finding parts for them. Just pay the money and upgrade to what works. there is more information about which o-rings to buy. Something about the colors. A certain color means its made from a better material and the other color will leak on you in no time... Others will chime in on this fact.

wheres a good place to get the high density TURBO oil cooler tube at? I checked around but must be looking up the wrong part number? thx

I believe the turbo oil cooler bundle is all we can buy these days. See its cheaper to upgrade and only carry the newer part if it fits all the differant applications. I'm told the exhaust valves are like that now... We can only buy the upgraded inconel valves. Funny thing is I never burned or damaged any of my 1989 exhaust valves running a Banks turbo boosting to 13 lbs hauling heavey too... I just don't understand the upgrades where something was working fine...
