my 6.9l has zero compression on the six hole
have a chance to buy a 7.3. just curious if there are any suggestions out there for me. and if my manual tranny can bolt up behind the 7.3l in place of the auto tranny.
thanks fellas

i second that you'll just have to re-wire the 7.3 glow plugs but its really straight forward pull the 6.9 and drop the 7.3 in .

externally they are basically identicle unless the motor was from a van, then there are a few differaces like exhaust, oil cooler and fuel filter.

What made you feel the cylinder is dead. Have you pulled the valve cover and looked at the springs or pushrods. Might be a simple fix.. Any motor noise thats got you thinking something came loose in the cylinder....

i was climbing a long grade when i lost a lot of compression took a look behind me and it was just a black cloud. pulled over it was running really rough thought it was injectors but turns out thats not the case
i had it compression tested, but i figure if i can get the 7.3. i can start digging in to the 6.9 and rebuild it.
thanks for the suggestions guys much appreciated

so i took the valve cover off today bent push rod and broken rocker

:eek::eek::eek:

That's not good. Any chance you've gotten the head off to see what happend to the piston. Gotta guess the valve/piston gave each other a little kissy.
