What about turning the get together Towcat holds into a big western rally, but maybe a lil farther noth than Norther California. Maybe Oregon to make it in the middle for everyone. I mean that would be a long way from San Diego. Oregon would be a lot more feasible for me at least. Idk just a thought...
The point...is CANADIAN rally...LOL

Canada would work for me. I'm originally from the NW and can make it a dual trip to family and IDI meet-n-greet!

Vancouver BC is great! So is Victoria.

Still one of my favorite places is Long Beach on Western Vancouver Island.

My two cents as a previous Rally host is the following:

Pick the place. You know your area better than folks coming there, so find a place you like and most folks will like it too. It should be realatively easy to get to with a truck/camper. It should be near things the group would like doing/seeing. Finding the right campground can be a challege at times. They have to be willing to hold a group of sites for the group months in advance before the rally. Plus, some owners hear "rally" and think of bikers and lots of bad images. Make sure they know the group is family oriented and not a gaggle of drunken roudies.LOL

Pick the time. Once you know the place, then set the dates and stick to them. The date needs to be far enough in advance to enable folks to make plans/arrangments to come (with work, family, save cash, and so on). No date will work for everyone, but it is what it is. For it to happen, you gotta have a plan and stick to it.

Pick the events. Again, you know what would interest folks and what's available in the area. The key (at least in my opinion) is to have events, but not to do too much. It's just as nice to sit around the campgroud, shooting the bull with new and old friends at the firepit as it is to go on a tour, dyno, race, or what have you. Talk with owner/operators of the events/things you want the group to enjoy. Get a firm commitment and call them after the first meeting to reaffirm and recommit them/you to the group being at their place. The Rally on the east coast always has a potluck dinner and a show and shine. We give out awards from the show and shine at the dinner and it's a good time. But, it's your rally, you can do what you feel is best.

THIS I THINK IS KEY-----------> Plan the next rally before the current rally ends! While everyone is there, talk about who would host and where it'll be. More than one option... take a vote. The key is having a plan for folks to work with and it will keep going and growing each year.

Ask any questions at all from any of the previous Rally hosts. It's a fun (and stressfull) process, but worth the effort. It will be a great time and it will grow and grow each year.

Thanks for the tips Heath

I'm going to check with the Desert racing group...what ever they call themselves, they drag race on a local air port runway 1/8th Mile! could be fun on one day run down to dyno on another ...maybe...wine tour..if we have some DD's...LOL ya there are a few things available and we have a large campground locally run by the local first nations, they would be my choice to have a rally. Or I'd look at some other options...perhaps the Rodeo grounds...going to start looking at options, we do have some car shows locally as well so maybe tie into that dunno...lots options for sure..

I love a good road trip, and if it works out with my crazy job............. I'd love to make a long trip to meet a new group of OB's from the North.

I might give it a try. It's a long haul, but I have family, friends and campsites all up the west coast. I even have a passport that hasn't been stamped yet.

Don't know how I missed this before...but, it's worth noting that there have been a few attempts over the years to do a major west coast rally in the same vein as the IDI Weekend in the East. Seems like every time someone tries to put one together, people express interest, but end up dropping out to the point where the organizers have tended to simply give up. Unfortunately, this has led to ruined vacations and lost money. Other than the get-togethers that towcat has hosted (which have been absolutely great IMHO, but tend to be short-notice and primarily local affairs {although a few people such as Gary/icanfixall, Russ/typ4, Bruce/suv7734, Justin/punkmechanic, Mike/Knuckedragger, and Kenny/vegas39 have come from "out of town"}), there haven't really been any successful events west of the Rockies.

I for one would love to see a successful large-scale West Coast event...and I'd love an excuse to go up to the Pacific Northwest and have always been curious to see British Columbia; never had an opportunity to go up to Canada before. So, given past history, I have to say that I'm not holding my breath, but I'd love to see this become a reality...

Just my $.02

Warden...

You have expressed a very good point as I have not heard of a west coast rally either. Just small lil gittogethers n such.

Sure would be nice to have one here, I know it's a tough deal but in the end it would be worth it for sure!
