What is the trouble shooting diagram to follow if your manual locking hubs work fine on a 01' X but your auto switching does not?

What is the worst case scenario price wise for repair? Does the mechanism work on vacuum?

Start where David says, vacuum at hubs then follow the vacuum lines up to the vacuum pump, make sure pump works. Check ESOF switch for power and functionality.

Just did my hubs and found both sides vacuum hose fittings going into the hubs were rusted badly. Pull the hose off and check there. Could be the O'ring(s) are leaking also.

Look here. Just scroll down to the hub maintenance.

It's interesting, this morning my mechanic tested the auto hubs and the work fine, but found that the rt front axle seal needs replacing....grumble.
