Recently installed a rebuilt injector pump. This was the first real drive since.

Driving along in 5th gear with partial throttle at about 45 MPH the exhaust blows black with slight acceleration and then white with slight deceleration.

Is the white smoke unburned fuel...maybe? Is the setting too rich?

Thanks, Harold

Did you use a meter to time the truck?
Are the injectors new?

Thanks. Didn't get notified of replies. I'll check my settings.

Anyhow, this was not a problem prior to the rebuilt IP from Pensacola. The old IP had been good but I let it set with air and it drew moisture.

So the problem seems to be with the settings of the rebuilt IP. So I'm wondering if it is rich and unburned fuel collected in the exhaust is being burned white on deceleration as someone else suggested.

The Navistar does not have slots where the IP can be turned to play with the timing. Ford changed that but International did not.

Off to check my user settings............
