I got this truck from my boss during the summer. I saw it in his field with three old washing machines on it. I asked him about it and he said if I put blades on his lawn mower he would give it to me. I later found out that he had ordered it new in 1968 right before he went into the marine corps because his dad died a few years earlier and his mom needed a vehicle. He made $100 a month and the payment was $80 a month, but he got it paid off. I decide to restore it, but talking to him, he said that he wanted to get it with 4x4 but that was way out of his budget at the time. I decided the best way to get 4x4 was to swap the frame, and I found a 79 f250 4x4 with no motor or anything else but a cab for $200 from a friend of my boss. I got a divorced transfer case from a 75 from him too, he threw it in with the truck. I then saw a 85 f250 2wd idi sitting by some guys house so I stopped and knocked on his door, and he said he would sell it for $600. I found a guy with a zf5 for a 2wd and I got it for $350. I didn't know if it was diesel or 460, but I got her bolted up and it is a idi pattern. I have just taken everything apart and am ordering new stuff, I need floorpans for the cab, the mounts are still really good, and I didn't get a bed with it so I am going to use a 8"x 8" flatbed I got for $100. I have about $1200 worth of parts in a cart at LMC so I will order that stuff soon. I ordered a clutch and solid flywheel for it, cause my idi is from a automatic, and I bought a injector return line kit and water pump for the motor. I plan to put everything together first and make sure it works, and then do the body work and repaint it when all the bugs are worked out. If anyone has any advise for me on mounting the motor, I did get the plates that bolt to the cross member off the 85 but not sure what height and what angle to the driveshaft and diff/transfer case I should do. If anyone can help me out on that I would appreciate it. I also need help with my t-case. I took it apart and put new seals in it, and all the shafts spin but the input shaft. I had it spinning without the bolts tight, and when I got it tight it wouldn't budge, maybe the torque of the idi will break it loose and start spinning again? Or should I get thicker gaskets? Or should I put some thin oil in it and see if that does it? And I am getting more pictures off my phone that I will post later.

Wow. Currently working on putting an IDI in place of my great-uncle's 71 f350 with a flatbed and a 360... What are the odds? LOL

After you tighten the bolts on the transfer case, get a block of wood and and a hammer and smack directly on the input shaft and then both output shafts. See if that frees it up.

you must get that t-case to spin freely before you try to install it.
if it don't spin, something is incorrect. bearings or guts!
I wouldn't rely on the "breaking it loose" idea.
try franklins idea first.

great, another bump side with an IDI.
you jerks are making me jealous!
my dad would kick my ass if I modified his old truck.
shes a great runner that needs a resto, but too many irons in the fire.
think ill keep this one a gasser.

Well I tore the fenders and the rest of the front end off the 68 today, will get it together and try to fit the idi radiator in the core support. Could someone link some pictures of how they fit it? It looks like I need to notch my frame and lift the body 2"

If you haven't already installed the pressure plate, make sure you torque the bolts to the correct torque value. The LUK kit I bought which looks like what you have had a misprint on the pressure plate bolt bag that said to torque them to the same as the crank bolts. Needless to say, they are smaller bolts and that is wrong. LUK sent me new bolts gratis but if I can save you the headache by having you double check first, all the better.

Mine had a paper that said the crank bolts were 45 ft-lbs and the pressure plate ones were 20 ft-lbs. But thanks for warning me. I got her on and the tranny bolted up, looks good.
