not meaning to highjack but maxspeed how do you think it would be without the turbo, have a similar rig looking to pull similar load ( a little less 14000) without a turbo. Do you have an aftermarket ra

Have to add my 0.02. I've pulled quite a few big loads across SK, AB and BC, mostly b-trains so obviously not with my F350. I found that the wind traveling west on 1 to Calgary is a far bigger factor than the hills in Alberta ever where. It's like pulling uphill all day long, at least in the foothills there is almost a down for every up, although sometimes like from Edm up through Valleyview it seems like its one never ending hill.

Back in the day I found that I had the best luck starting in the wee hours (2-3 am). The wind was the lightest and the air the coolest even though cool air shouldn't be a big issue this time of year.

The ride home on the other hand will feel like your running downhill most of the time.

Overall it sounds like your well prepared. Enjoy the journey.

Would not even consider it without a turbo, unless you are camping 20 miles from your house and taking back roads.

I pulled my other toy hauler that was 11000 pounds loaded, it had no on board gas tanks, only 80 gal. of fresh water and two cycles. It pulled ok non turbo with out the 80 gal of water on board. But add 80 gal of water and the truck on some hills felt like it was at its limits. Pulling long hills was hell in lower gears, high rpms on the motor with no extra power to up shift to bring rpms down. The turbo made a huge difference..
I love my IDI as long as it can do the job I can spend my money on my other toys and not buy a new truck!
My 1970 475 cid Mach1, 2000 Hayabusa, 2008 B King , and wife's 2008 Bandit 1250S
The camper behind the Hayabusa back in the yard is the old one I sold last year that was 11000 pounds loaded.

for 10 years I towed with no turbo on my F450. 15-17k gvw normally and 19-21k at times. with 5.13 gears you won't be breaking any land speed records but the truck will get the job done. ;Sweet

No stock radiator on the truck I don't know but I would guess being its an F450 it may be a little bigger..... I could be wrong... Truck has 10 bolt rims and disk brakes all the way around.

the 5:13 gears would make a lot of difference with an NA, Never had any experience with that kind of gearing,..I understand that it would "get the job done", I just don't have that kind of patience.

just got home from the DMV, turns out here in ND...... they don't care about your GVWR, as long as your total rig is under 26,000lbs and the truck is registered here, you're legal anywhere you go, so I'd check local laws with your DMV to be sure

other than that, it's now $5 here to change your GVWR to whatever you want it to be, and it goes into effect before you are back out the door, just make sure if you do that you don't make your DD into a class B licensed truck LOL

i see no real problems with your set up, just like everyone else has said go slow and easy, i've pulled a goose neck flat bed all over oregon weighing in at times well over 20,000 with a 90 idi, 5 spd, ats turbo, single rear wheels. i have a prodijy (? spl) brake controller that works awesome and deffinately suggest them for anyone towing a 3000 lb trailer or a 15,000 lb trailer

the funny part is my F450 had the same amount of ballz as my company IH 4700 when it came to hills. In commercial trucks, they really believe in a leisurely pace up hills. I've seen the results in F550's and 5500's. both of those are filling up the yards wrecked due to drivers driving beyond their brakes.
