Towing with passenger vehicle vs. truck

Okay, let me define some stuff first. In Virginia we have: EW: Empty weight GW: The REGISTERED gross weight of the vehicle...we can set this to whatever we want.....sort of. GVWR: Gross Vehicle weight rating as listed by the manufacturer GCWR: Gross combined weight rating. My truck is...

Towing with passenger vehicle vs. truck

So this has always made me mad. In Virginia, and other states, I can hook up to a trailer with my passenger car or even SUV, and it is completely legal so long as the trailer and vehicle does not exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. NOW, if I hook to a trailer with my F250...

    Flatbed truck legal battle!

OLD BLUE, I understand. Based on the definition of interstate commerce, so long as you are hauling your own stuff (and not for your business, etc.) no CDL is required under 26,001 pounds. Besides there isn't even a CDL license for under 26,001 pounds except for hazmat or hauling 16 or more...

    Flatbed truck legal battle!

OLDBULL, I'd like to make a correction to what you said. You said whether you are for hire or not has no bearing on the definition of commercial vehicle, but re-read what you posted: "Whether you're hauling for hire or not has no bearing on the CDL requirements. FMCSA defines a Commercial...

    Flatbed truck legal battle!

Pele, I'm in VA also. Your county was more than willing to take your check for the personal property tax bill for the last few years, I'm sure. Tell them, you'll move it out of the county if they refund your property tax for the last x-number of years.......if it was illegal to have it housed...

    Supermel

Hey Mel, Glad it all went fairly smoothly. Sorry I couldn't have been there. As for the bastard-child truck....yeah, someone tried to convert a 2wd to a 4wd with a D50....and judging by the welds, I see why they gave up. Sorry about the oil pan.... I had no idea about the dent or the welds...

1993 7.3 IDI engine, tranny, radiator and radiator core support for sale

The parts are located near SouthBoston VA, about an hour south of Lynchburg. The truck is a 93, but I don't know which tranny it is. The truck is about 4 hours away from my house (I have all this stuff at my parents' home in the country where neighbors don't complain about parts etc.) Jerry

Two F350 Crew Cabs....just the cabs

I'll try to get pics this weekend, if I get out there. The 95 cab is pretty much gutted. Windshield is there (I "think" it is good) The dash is mostly there but missing parts. Some interior panels are there (red), but no seats or carpet. The 93 cab has some misc. parts in it, but the previous...

Two F350 Crew Cabs....just the cabs

One is a 93. It is just the cab. Cab is solid but the roof is bowed in a little (may be able to push it out) and the floor board was cut to install a shifter for a transfercase. Make an offer. The other is a 95, this one is a 2wd cab from a gasser. Very solid. Make an offer. I also have...

1993 7.3 IDI engine, tranny, radiator and radiator core support for sale

I have some parts for sale from my spare parts truck. I am unaware of the mileage of any of the parts.....sorry. 1. 7.3L IDI non-turbo engine. Complete from Aircleaner to oilpan, but does not include the serpentine belt brackets and accessories like alt, ps pump, vac pump or A/C, or wiring...

Well, I bought a new truck

Yeah, the fuel mileage is bad but so is the new diesel. I won't be towing so it doesn't make much difference. I did the math on how much I drive a year......I won't starve.....I hope! Jerry

Well, I bought a new truck

The new diesels are not reliable in my opinion.

New Truck.... what to do, what to do

Have you test drove the new F150 yet? The reason I ask is because I was on the fence between a 150 supercrew and a F250 crewcab. I went with the 250. The 150 have some very very uncomfortable headrests in my opinion. I'm 6'3 so it may be different for others. But yeah that FX4 package had me...

Well, I bought a new truck

Well guys, I bought a new V10 F250! I know I know. Don't worry I didn't junk my old trucks (especially since they get better mileage than the new one! LOL! ) Anyway the 97 and 93 Fords are both for sale. Trying to sell locally first. If that doesn't work, then I'll advertise 'em here soon. I...

    Crew question (not really IDI)

Centurion Conversions also did crewcab shortbed F150's for a while. I have seen a few. Jerry

Which would be better IDI vs Power Stroke

Either one. But, check the coolant additives. If both are low on the additives, and I had to choose between those two trucks and only those two trucks, I would buy the PSD over the IDI just because the cylinder walls on the PSD are less prone to cavitation (thicker) but if both have the proper...

    HELP!! IP adjustment problem!!

Yeah they can be a pain! Make sure you are using quality allen wrenches. Craftsman at the least, snap-on or MAC. Check the head of the screw and make sure it isn't toast now. Also, I would be concerned about metal chips from the wrench inside the pump. I hope not, but you might need to flush it...

    Crewcab swap is done... pics

LOL! Every picture I have of me working on ANYTHING has me looking like I am pissed off at the world. Even on a good day! That's funny! Jerry

    Bought a crew cab

Yeap....done it before with a supercab. What you do is use a jack to jack up the back, then slide a 2x6 across with some blocking on it, then set the 2x6 on a saw horse on either end. Then jack up the front of the cab....slide in the board and lower back down. Now you roll the frame out from...

    Heres one for ya

After having a clutch rod failure under the dash on my 97 in traffic, I no longer sit at lights with the truck in gear. I wait in neutral and then shift when the light changes. It's safer, plus gives you that extra second to look for traffic. Not saying anything against your driving...

    i got a custom grill :D

So when I get my 93 all painted, I plan to paint it the same as my 97 BUT now one will have an Autobot insignia and the other will have the Decepticon insignia........I'm going to bed now......it's late, and if I stay up I will be ordering stickers! LOL! Jerry

    i got a custom grill :D

Damn it, now I have something ELSE to do to my trucks! I like it. Yeah, I'm a giant kid. My wife told me to grow up.......I told her, "you can't make me!" Just waiting for her to get mad enough one day and divorce my ass! LOL! I hope not...it was hard enough finding this one! lol! Jerry

    Bought a crew cab

Perfect. I guess my Dad and I will have to eat breakfast before lifting it by hand then.......:D We hope to do it with jacks and then run supports left to right on top of saw horses (heavy ones) and then wheel the undercarriage out and back under it with the trailer. Piece of cake.......LOL I...
