    why do older F250's have a 300 I6

I had a 91 f250 4x4 with the straight 6 and a zf5. Best damn truck I ever owned, and I kick myself every day for selling it. I put a bit of money into intake and exhaust work, and it would pull anything I hooked to it. Granted it didn't pull like a new diesel but I always got to wherever I...

    injection pump bad??

I'd check the fuel pressure at the filter head. Every time my truck loses a lift pump, the power drops off the face of the earth. If it has good fuel pressure, IP sounds about right.

    frustrated. need assistance

I have replaced all of the rubber lines with diesel rated line. I tried testing my old pump, the arm just wiggled around, it wasn't working the diaphram at all. Whatever now though, hopefully I'll never have to deal with one again ;Sweet

    frustrated. need assistance

Took nearly 4 hours but got the job done. I bypassed the mechanical pump, and on the frame right after the tanks I mounted a facet posi-flo pump. PN 6101050, it is rated for 5-7psi and 34 gph. While I was there, I bypassed the water seperator and cleaned up the fuel system a little. I just wired...

    460 gas mileage vs 5.4

awful was my last truck. It was an 85 chevy 4x4 dually with a stretched frame, 12' flatbed, 8" lift on 37" hummer tires. Had a very worn out 454 on 4 speed stick. Got a flat 3 mpg, even worse if I put my foot in it. I could go through 80 bucks of gas a day staying within 20 miles of my house...

    frustrated. need assistance

Another member on here thought I may have a problem with the cam lobe. But the weird thing is, when I pull these pumps out, the arm is still fine. One had alot of slack in it, but the others didn't. The first one was the factory pump, second I bought at a place known to sell cheap parts so I...

    frustrated. need assistance

I will give this truck one thing...its sure taught me how to do road side fixes to get home. Had an idea on the electric pump. I have a set of cheap driving lights on my front bumper that are on a switch in the cab. I could mount a pump on the frame where the rubber pig tail line is for the...

    frustrated. need assistance

Tomorrow in the day light I'll put some pics up...I did it myself with a sawzall and a crappy wire welder so I gotta do some grinding and painting to make it look good...shoulda paid more attention in geometry back in high school... I found one through CAT and the price made it seem like it was...

    frustrated. need assistance

Took the truck into town today, ran great the entire time. Got my new 5" CAT stack in, and went for the test drive when it started surging really bad and smoking, then completely died. Fuel filter was empty. Re-primed it with the filter primer and got it running and had no fuel pressure...

    Possible air leak solution?

I'm going to try that today. I just replaced the factory unit with a new one that has a primer on it, but I suppose anything could leak

    Possible air leak solution?

Well I replaced that pig tail hose and the lift pump not even a month ago...but air in the fuel lines was the first thing that happened when the last one went out...guess I'll just wait and see. I'll go electric this time around if the pump is on its way out

    Possible air leak solution?

Okay, got the line straightened and replaced the olive and I'm still getting air in the filter housing. It isn't a terrible leak, it always starts up, the only problem it seems to be causing is after I bleed the filter out, it'll run great for a few miles then start to lose power. Never to the...

    Possible air leak solution?

I have attached a picture of what I think my air intrusion problem is coming from... This is the hard line going from my lift pump to the filter housing. As you can see in the picture, it goes into the head at an angle. Could this allow air in? There is a rubber O ring inside. Past that I've...

I really hate these trucks at times

I feel your pain. in 6 months I've replaced 2 lift pumps, injection pump, glow plugs, numerous filters and hoses and guess what? I got another air leak yesterday and lost my fuel prime and had to be towed home. This truck is one breakdown from going to the crusher.

    power comes and goes

Well its got a rebuilt 7.3 ip, and I've put probably 1500 miles on it or so. It hasn't shown any of the signs my last pump did before it went, but I'll check that cam deal you mentioned. I seem to remember it didn't seem right when I put it on the truck...like it didn't do anything when I played...

    power comes and goes

Hello all, Within the past month or so, I've noticed that my truck's power level seems to fluctuate from day to day. Some days, it's really snappy and runs great, and other days (most of the time) its a total slug. Like, having to mash it nearly to the floor to get up to speed. I noticed...

    manually switching fuel tanks?

    manually switching fuel tanks?

Hello, When I bought my 85 F250, the rear tank was full to the neck. I looked at the fuel today, and it has a yellowish tint to it. Is it okay to run the fuel or should I drain it? its about a year and a half old. Second question, my selector switch doesn't work. Is there a way I can...

    bad injection pump question

I would love to have a moose pump, but I can't swing the cash right now. Any extra cash I have is going towards injectors and whatever else breaks between now and then :puke:
