Put my 93 F250 to it's first real test since starting this project over the weekend. Finally felt like I was ready to give it a real go after getting the gooseneck pocket, rear fuel tank and stake rails all sorted. I loaded up the 6300 lbs camp trailer for the long haul to Montana about 425 miles. Wanted to get the camper up there and setup before the snows yesterday and today. Made it just in time as it started snowing Sat morning as I was getting properly in place for the summer. All I can say is long, slow and expensive :)

It actually ran pretty good between 55 and 65 mph. It did pull all the hills nicely and only had to down shift to 4th three times the whole trip. Pulled the Mallad summit at 60 and about 2600 rpm just fine. I think it did 7.8 mpg, but as I have to use the slip tank to fill my tanks, I may be off by a bit.

Can't decide if I want to do three more runs with a shipping container, septic tanks and then again a third trip with a skid steer. Surprising how towing can be stressful when you don't truly know your tools. The skid steer and gooseneck trailer will be double the camp trailer and a whole nother level.

Curious what you guys think of trying to tow 13 - 15K loads that far with one of these bad boys?

Anyway it was a success so far and now have the truck home in Montana with the trailer !!!

Cheers, Pete

I have that exact same stereo to cover up the cracks in the dash
I haven't got the chance to drive it much since I installed it but so far I am liking it alot and the fact it is single din so no dash butchery to fit it. I have been fighting the 7.3's recent appetite for serpentine belts. I think I may have everything happy....maybe

My neighbor needed this moved from their old house, so fired up Bob and dragged it home. It's in really good shape 1988 s10 blazer. Said neighbor's house in background haha. I forgot to ask him what's wrong with it other than passenger window shattered, but I'll grab a battery and see what's what. I'm hoping to do more flips than customer pay jobs for the summer so I can spend more time with the kids. But summer is when I suddenly become super popular. I wish I had been this popular in high school haha

Test drive to check the oil cooler job and valve cover. No leaky... So far. The thermostat seemed to stick and temp went up to 230/240 (for maybe 1-2 minutes tops) before coming down to 200 after turning on the heater. Took a gallon and a half in the radiator after letting it cool down. I put 4.5 gallons in when I filled it, let it run, let it cool and refilled. Difference is I turned on the heater (I didn't do that before the test drive) when it started getting really hot. I know that's high, but seemed OK on the way home. Never had trouble with it getting hot before so I think it's gonna be fine.

Your thermostat didn't stick. You had an air pocket in your cooling system. After it got worked out, everything went back to normal. The clue to what happened is that you had to add quite a bit more coolant after the test drive.

It wasn't as much fun as getting lost like Nero does, but I did use my truck to take my pickup bed trailer to work so it could be recolored. It does look better now without the light green showing. While I was cleaning the taillight bulbs, the glass separated on one so I took it home and installed some LED 1157s that I had here. Now I can see the taillights during the day time at least.

Took the day off work and drove the truck down to south sac to pick up a truck toolbox at the terminal. Noticed the front head gasket leaking when I was doing the oil cooler, so was a little worried I wouldn't make it (had the heater on full blast the whole way). Truck made it, only lost a couple cups of coolant, and never really got over 210 for very long. I think it hit just under 220 once going up hill. Going to have to fix that head gasket at some point, but it looks like these trucks can run fine with them leaking a little bit (leak to outside - no oil in coolant or coolant in oil). Got the fluid swapped over from green to pink fleet guard with two distilled water flushes in between. Overall, a good day.

Sorry, I think this one is a keeper! I'll trade you my beater dump trunk after I steal more interior and the hood off it though lol
Thats's a sweet looking truck! My Ambulance is sitting next to my shop filled with overflow from the shop. Job is bigger than the shop. Thats ok though, diesel is hanging around $6.50 gal. here and at 10mpg I'll drive my 150 for a while. Costs me 1/3 as much. Wanted to drive the ambulance to Alaska, but it was close $$$ wise, now not possible.

I drove my mechanically injected diesel up the driveway to charge the batteries on my new old motorhome that has a computer operated diesel in it because the computer has decided it wants attention and I almost killed my batteries trying to figure that out.........ughhh..... this motorhome is gonna be sweet, but i got a couple humps to jump over..... its the price you pay for getting the cheap one......

I filled both the tanks because I was driving it to work the night shift tonight. Had about a 1/4 in each tank ......$120.00 dollars later it finally topped off :frustrate:***: I was regretting running the tanks so low between fuel stops. Oh well, it will be at least a little while before I run out again. It ran so nice coming in tonight, running north on I-49 and I-435, cruise control set 70, motor turning around 2200 rpm, shifts were smooth A/C was cold fuel pressure was steady around 4-5 PSI, boost between 5-10 and the EGT below 1000. I think my serpentine belt issues have been cured. I absolutely love driving this big b@st@rd truck. I don't even mind spending the money on the fuel when it treats me like that. I even gave him a little Hot Shot Secret for a treat.
