When I installed the 088 in my 93 I had to use the original tube until I found the right ATS one. I took some of the bend out and it did work but as you say it was low and awkward to check. Have you considered an aftermarket flexible tube. Also if you try to modify the original tube be mindful of the short portion that is in the transmission, if you start wiggling that around your likely to cause a leak where you don’t want it.

Or maybe even a break.

Thank u guys for the info... today my crossover pipe arrived very nice fit thank u russ.... I didn't know there was a after market flexible tube will look into that... there's a clear shot straight down behind the head to the short pipe thats in the trans im thinkn on my e150 same trans the tube is very straight from trans to the area where it hits the body and then has a 90 degree bend to get it close to the hood.. im going g to junk yard tomarrow to see about getting one out of a van and I can make me one out of that... just cut it off just before the bend and find a place to tack a hanger so I can attach it to motor.... but yes very mindfull not to disturb the small extention tube don't need any leaks in my brand new monster in a box tranny... lol

Thanks for the info idibronco.... whats crazy is I can see a straight line to where the dip stick tube goes from up top between the down pipe and feed pipe so I might see if I can make a tube with a small bend .... this one I got has a huge bend in it and if I take out the lower tube that goes directly into the trans it looks like this will fit and bolt to the exhuast manifold but will be real short and hard to get to to check the fluid level.... ill keep u posted...
Just make sure your new tube is the same length or your readings will be wrong. Small bends are good. Also if it's so close to the hot exhaust pipes you'll want either the pipes wrapped or the tube, or both.
