Hello all. I’m newer to the IDI’s and I’ve got a kind of nutcase truck I’m trying to fix up.. when first purchasing the truck, I realized the fss was held open by an 8mm socket and a dime. When key turned off, it had to be suffocated to shut down. After replacing the fss, it seemed like it still wasn’t getting fuel so I rigged it up the way it was before just to see it run to work on other things. Low and behold, it shut off with the key after that. Head scratcher..

anywho, after putting it around like that for a couple days, it started revving erratically. Randomly idling high, or trying to drive away while I stand on the brake. Really inconsistently. I let it sit a couple days but I had to move it today so I could get a car out of the garage.. after cranking it immediately ran away! Key wouldn’t shut it down, I’m ravaging at the air cleaner to get something over the hole on the manifold and for some reason I feel the need to mess with the throttle.. it immediately idled back down!

not sure what just happened but I’ll be taking a look back under the ip cover soon.

Sounds to me like your 'runaway condition', is the throttle cable getting stuck. Not your IP.

By the way, could you give us a picture of the socket and dime, in your IP?

After removing the IP cover to see what happened, the socket that was rigged on the fss had fallen out and somehow caused the throttle to hold wide open. Still educating myself on how the internals of the pump works, so sorry if that didn't sound smart lol... I went for another try to start without the fss rigged open and it actually worked properly! Very rewarding as this truck has started/shut down correctly since I bought it a few months ago.

If all else fails, Thewespaul is just down the road from you. His shop is a little west of Bulverde. He's a good guy to deal with.
